About The Artwork
A tribute to Leonardo da Vinci. My latest painting…oil on canvas, 24”x18” (61cmx46cm), the approximate size of the da Vinci painting. Here, at last, is my interpretation of “Lady With An Ermine.” I began this tribute to Leonardo da Vinci in April, his birth month, a difficult but delightful challenge. My goal was to capture the eyes, the mouth, to place them in a face that speaks to me, all the while being led by Leonardo's design and genius. The daunting da Vinci hand was most instructive. Now, 5 months and 32 layers of paint later, I think it is finished. No photo can truly show the lovely, soft, sfumato aspect of this work. When viewed... the serene expression, the curve of the hand, the silky ermine, the folds of the robes... one feels calm. Black gallery-wrapped edges, wired and ready to hang. Signed on the front, and the back, by the artist.
