About The Artwork

Oil on canvas board. Worth Boat Launch Ramp at Calumet Sag Channel, Chicago South Side. Inspired by the plein air work of such artists as Paul Cezanne, Vincent Van Gogh, Giorgio Morandi, among others, with an easel in my car I drove around the area where I live -- Chicago’s South Side -- in search of motifs like those of my favorite artists. Soon I realized that I shouldn’t be looking for rolling hills with rocky cliffs and mountains. Modest suburban houses inserted into the Chicago grid street system, on the flat-as-a-table plain is what makes its look -- practical, cost effective. Generations of people with their families come and go in these bungalows, georgians, ranches, with their front lawns, backyards, garages, parks. The challenge is to find its unique flavour, its unique beauty. As Bologna’s scenes were dear to Morandi, so the Chicago area is to me.

By nature, I am a philosophical idealist. Questions of eternal human values preoccupy my thoughts. My art is a materialization of these questions and thoughts. My paintings are an act of love. I express my hope for a spiritually awakened humanity, for a humanity that doesn't give in to the pressures of technological domination. I address my paintings to those who seek answers in their quest for spiritual development. My goal, my mission is to evoke human qualities in people. I ask my viewers to look inside themselves and see what it is to be human.
