"Languid" is an original acrylic painting by professional artist Brazen Edwards. This contemporary abstract artwork is an 30x30x1.5" acrylic painting on wood cradle panel. This painting is part of a series I created for my Duo Exhibition entitled "Emotion vs Logic : Approaches to Abstract Painting" with Fiona Neal. The inspiration for this particular exhibition was based on how each artist drew from their personal lives and expressed themselves using two entirely different approaches to painting. Neal uses meditation and an emotional connectedness whereas Edwards compositions are conceptual using science and alchemy. They both believed, however, that there is a need to participate in the present moment so the challenge with their project was to strip down to the most simple and symbolic elements that resonate with mood and atmosphere, light and shadow causing either an emotional reaction or a logical one.

I grew up on the prairies of Alberta but always felt a particular pull towards the mountains, ocean and warmer weather so after pursuing a career in Criminology, and raising a set of identical twin boys I moved to BC in 2009 and felt inspired. I realized my one true regret in life was putting my art aside for so long, so with the encouragement of my family, I took the initiative and began devoting myself to painting full time and haven't looked back! After leaving such a stressful career, I felt it was necessary to re-evaluate what I focused on, what I attracted into my life and if my creativity can inspire and bring happiness to others then I feel my life has meaning. In 2015, I opened Ellis Art Studios, a 6000sq ft fine art facility located downtown Kelowna that utilizes a mentor–apprentice model to prepares artists, emerging or professional to develop their art and design skills. I now reside in Vancouver, Canada but spend part of the year painting and travelling the world. Along with my studio and exhibition practice, I also provide workshops, consulting, painting demonstrations and organize art events worldwide. My latest project is a long term art residency in Bangkok, Thailand.
