About The Artwork

Painted in 23/02/2018. Acrylic on high quality canvas, extremely resistant, 290g cotton canvas, carefully primed, 100x40x3.6cm. This painting is the first out of a series of three. Le Temps des Cerises is in tune with our times rather than aggressive polemic. Le Temps des Cerises is an artwork that is intended to be above all beautiful and stimulating. It is full of positive energy. The song Le Temps des Cerises, associated with the Paris Commune of 1871, was originally written in 1866 by Jean-Baptiste Clément and composed by Antoine Renard in 1868. This assimilation is due to its imprecise text where we can see the metaphor of a Revolution. Because of its happy but nostalgic context, it actually ended up taking on this iconic revolutionary character. It has been taken up by many remarkable artists. Prevert, giving him an antimilitarist character, Ferrat explaining his loyalty to Communism, Paul Paillette writing an anarchist song on this same melody, Yves Montand for a concert in favor of Chile in 1974, and many others. The French Army Choir even interprets it as a tribute to the victims of the January and November 2015 terrorists’ attacks. Le Temps des Cerises has only increased its emotional, protesting and generating a desire to change. Its evocative title is perfect for my painting. The background, with ben-day dots, of this first painting is American Pop Art, which here symbolizes the glorification of the consumer society, and an insidious capitalism. It's precisely what the three characters on the painting wish to leave behind them. Characters that bring together a non-exhaustive range of our urban populations. The FEMEN activist from a Latin American country where the rights of the citizens are violated, a lady representative of the forgotten and excluded seniors of our western societies, a moderate veiled Muslim woman representative of foreigners and different beliefs. Use of acrylic, the newest medium in painting, because it suits the excitement of our time. © 2018 Ludovic Jaccoud Artwork. All rights reserved. Certificate of authentication.
