Diptych shown hung apart
I begin a painting and then I end it.

I push it and pull it. Painting is a rollercoaster. Some rides are gentler than others. Paint goes down, and then more, until I have something to start. And then it begins. It is like landing on a field.

In an organic manner, I respond to what is in front of me. It can be a wonderful meditation in between the rollercoaster moments. I have no plan. I am influenced by ideas, people and places. I am a visual sponge, eyes-wide-open – everywhere. From oil in a gutter to last light on a castle.

This painting is influenced by a museum I visited recently – that moved me. But, it was not my intent, to include what I saw. The outcome is an unintended reflection of that museum. It is only looking at it as it is almost complete, that I can see it.

In my studio, accidents happen, and that moves my work forward. It is always exciting to watch work take on a life of its own. I begin with the end in mind, and always land in a different place. I work hard to develop original works – avoiding trends and following the direction of the work – in the moment. My colourful works reflect my love of colour, and design. Works are held in private and public collections worldwide.
