About The Artwork

This piece conveys the frustration and negative emotions felt when you are mid-conversation on one of the many instant messaging services and are suddenly and without explanation left on read. That is to say, the service tells you that your message has been read by the other in the conversation, yet they have not responded. This causes a lot of frustration. The background of the piece comprises a slow fade from black (bottom) to a very deep dark red(top) Six speech bubbles in speckled and textured blue overlay this background, blue was chosen as many of the more popular instant messaging services use blue speech bubbles. Each speech bubble contains an ellipse. a symbol often shown when the other in the conversation is typing. A Vermillion line begins at the bottom of the piece amidst black, which signifies not knowing if you will get a response. and makes its way upwards. When the line crosses into the deep red color of the background it takes a sudden and sharp turn to the left before ending on the left-hand side of the piece. The line represents the mindset of the person being left on read. As it slowly degrades into a more negative and frustrated mindset, signified by the deep red of the background the person's mindset changes and leaves the piece abruptly, signifying losing hope of getting a response and no longer waiting for it. Giving up

I've never really considered art as a creative release until recently. More recently in my life, things have become harder and more emotionally intense and I turned to art to express that darkness and complexity that I felt on an emotional level. My intention is to express the dark and complex feelings I find myself experiencing at this point in my life with simple visuals. My paintings are, in general, a lot more complex in meaning that they are visually. I do this to allow you to draw your own conclusions about what you see on the canvass.
