Level-up is to be understood as an allegory of life. Similar to video games, in which you slip into the role of a hero and can improve and change him with increasing playing time, new worlds, achievements and rewards open up for the individual with increasing experience, lifetime and ability. The enlightened and self-confident human being decides for himself in which direction he develops, which things are important to him and on which company he cultivates. But humanity itself is also undergoing a similar development: the ascent from the animal to the first human precursors to the "model" known today can certainly be divided into different stages. Everyone is familiar with the images that visualize man from the bent ape-like being to its modern form with an upright walk. Exactly this motif is hidden and stylized in the lower right part of the work "Level Ascent". In this work, too, I was focused on the contrast between transparent and opaque layers of paint. The fields are surrounded by relief-like structures using a multi-layered glaze technique, creating a beautiful effect of depth. The work has been provided with a dark brown shadow gap frame, which gives the very expressive red even more intensity.

In his works, the artist deals in particular with the impressions of his travels, which lead him together with his wife around the whole world. Focal points are among others landscape abstractions, lost cultures as well as the confrontation with the consequences of human action. The paint serves as a means of expression, which enables him to visualize the processed themes both in one and three dimensions. "The predominantly abstract works of the Dresden artist Andreas Garbe impress the viewer with their sure colour aesthetics, stylistic independence and, last but not least, their craftsmanship.Whether captivating liveliness, almost magical calm or refreshing lightness - Andreas Garbe masters the expressiveness of the colours, lets them shine powerfully from their deepest interior and has thus found the answer to a question that the painter has always had to face. But Andres Garbe is also one of those who are in search, in search of the possibilities of the artistic realization of the experienced and learned. His themes range from history to the present: under the impression of his travels, he brings the mythologies of different cultures to life, tells in his works of impressive experiences of nature or, last but not least, reflects on the eternal and interpersonal. A demanding approach that challenges the intellectual as well as the sensitive viewer and which Andreas Garbe himself faces with great seriousness" Petra Klein, September 2009 In order to allow his artistic expression more scope for freedom and to be able to experiment in a more varied way, Garbe signs certain works with Julio Fernandez or Raphael König.
