View In My Room
As if in a dark dream, several men are working on a strange machine that looks like an oven, which they fire and which apparently produces light. In the background, a figure observes the process. In the foreground a young man is lying on a kind of light table and is being treated on the head by another man, although it is unclear whether it is about healing or manipulation. Giant moths and tubular installations drone above the vault-like scenery. On the left a path or river seems to lead into nature, past a neon sign with the letters "LUX", but smoke rises far back - a sign of destruction. The workers wear uniform clothing and appear to be following a secret plan. Do they want to bring light into the dark, illuminate your thoughts?

Ralph Hackeland was born in Cologne in 1965, later lived on Lake Constance for many years and has worked as a freelance painter, graphic artist and designer in Mannheim since studying communication design. In his figurative works, well-known, universal elements and motifs are brought together, creating a dream-like world in the new constellation. The actors seem strangely removed and seem stuck in inevitable developments. The images are snapshots of these developments and become a still image of an inner film, the further course of which is decided by the viewer.
