Sometimes I look at works by great masters and then I make small studies. It struck me that Henri Matisse, whom I really appreciate as a painter, did not land a special coup with his "Romanian blouse". 1. The style of painting, the proportions, the composition and the expression seemed very weak to me. 2. The title "The Romanian blouse" sounds defamatory, such as "The New Yorkers Underpants". I was interested in the relationship of the artist to his model. I wondered who could she have been, what did she look like, what connected painter and model.
