About The Artwork

Fear is the great refuge of human life. If a person is not afraid, he leads a chaotic life and some other people in the society become chaotic just by trying to copy them. A chaotic life is not desirable to a civilized society. In order to build a healthy society, one has to spend one's life through the fence of some healthy rules. Whenever there is chaos in the social life of India, the wise group of men, have come to commemorate one of the imaginary deities. It is from this feeling that I have tried to present this image.

I am Gautam Paul I was born in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, India. From my childhood, I loved to write poetry, draw, paint and sing. But my parents had huge objection to such work. They did not want me to be involved in such work, because of their financial issues at that time. Later, I got admitted to the Government college of art & craft in Calcutta by some force and from there I passed in 1990 with Bachelor of visual arts. I wanted to be a creative director of an add agency, so I joined a company in advertisement industry. But after the death of my father in 1997 my mental condition deteriorated and against my will I was forced to take the job of treasurer in a Govt (B.ed) college. I then became depressed about life and ran around trying to understand people's lives but could not understand the mind. My father's death threw me into the abyss. I read books, especially Eastern and Western philosophies, from my college library and I looked for answers to many questions about life in that library. Once I protested against the unethical behavior of the principal of the college but he ignored and insulted me and then I vowed to myself to unmask such educated people anyway, and chose painting as my tool. All my early paintings were developed in the protest painting style. I named my mission "The Dak Quest". The main purpose of these paintings was to highlight the dark aspects of society. Gradually, life has changed, the perception of life has also changed, I saw that this is not just nature or society with darkness, here both light and darkness have an equally crucial role. I began to see this world in a new perspective. Image to me is like an unknown dream, just as dreams are not fixed in advance, images should not be fixed in advance I believe and this is normal. The artist translates the flow of time in his earthly life into line and color as spontaneously as the flow of a river. But our lives are uncertain, I don't know what will happen tomorrow, so abstract painting always carries the signature of uncertainty. I have asked myself a lot of questions about why I should paint abstractly. Later I realized that only in the abstract painting with honesty can the primal energy of the artist's life be expressed or the meaning can be maintained. I will find the truth of my uncertain life in my painting without betraying my conscience.Abstract painting to me is a translation of the present uncertain life.
