About The Artwork

"Lily Love" is from my "Blossoming" 2016 Collection, and uses Golden acrylic modeling paste to create texture; the graceful lilies quite literally come forward off of the canvas to greet the viewer. The gold metal-leaf adds subtle glam to these very regal flowers, but I always apply gold-leaf in a distressed fashion, nodding towards its raw elemental qualities rather than it's polished adorning look that we wear. My Inspiration/Artist Statement: I was honored recently to complete a teaching artist residency in Salida, Colorado. There, I was set up on a "friend date" with a woman who was a friend of a friend. We decided to take a hike together at nearby Monarch Pass. Both in different stages of our lives, we shared stories amidst the breathtaking altitudes and ancient trees beside us. She shared a story about once visiting a Native American medicine man; when she asked him about healing a heavy sadness she had carried with her in her life, he offered one sentence, "Fall in love with a rock." I cherished this learning, and have thought of it often. I took it in as appreciating the beauty in every simple thing around us, taking nothing for granted, and being grateful (I also found a rock that day that I still keep with me). Lately, I have completely fallen in love with Spring in the Pacific Northwest. After a wet winter, there is so much life and rebirth to experience and energize us, and we have the wet winter to thank. So this is my present honoring, my present love story. The next time you take a walk outside, whether it's a rock or a flower, I invite you to sit quietly and fall in love, too. "Lily Love"'s 1.5" deep sides are painted gold, and the piece is signed and dated on the back. Comes with hanging wire installed and ready to hang. I hope this painting brings you a sense of calm, love and gratitude.
