In the process of making work, I start with collecting the images of unusual, alien and exotic. I am interested in the context of foreign; how the concept of foreign can be defined. Thus, my interest expands to the question of where dose the border of usual and unusual stands. In other words, I am questioning what is the state of an alien and what it means to be abnormal. Ultimately, through my practice, I am trying to define the emotional distance between the usual and the unusual, familiar and unfamiliar, and ordinary and extraordinary. Grouping is an important element in my practice. From the mass collection of collected images, I categorize the images from some of the rules that I have made. The way I group them can be varied from by the colors, shapes or even by the ecological roots. The process of grouping sometimes brings things that are not thought to be related. However, their unease coexistence triggers a chain of narrative in the work. The Moths and Orchid depicts a collection of tropical orchids and moths. The orchids which some of them have been genetically modified for ornamental reason are mixed with the moths which are genetically evolve with the changing environment of our modern time. We can easily think these objects are common in our daily life, but at the same time, they are aliens. They are aliens that resulted from the indulgence in pleasure of the humanity. They are ordinary, but at the same time extraordinary. One other expects about the work Moths and Orchids is the psychological interpretation of the depicted images. The abnormal images of the moths and orchids invite the viewer to think about different concepts while they are watching the alien images. This process is similar to the Rorschach Test which is a way of analyzing psychology based on a decalcomania inkblot on a sheet of paper. The test is to analyze a person’s personality characteristic and emotional functioning. It was especially for people who have thought disorder, people who are having difficulty expressing one’s personal ideas and emotions. As the Rorschach test dose, the different concepts which people find from the alien like images of moths and orchids brings an opportunity to intervene their unique imagination.
