Limbo has taken me two years to complete. When I started the original image I got half way through and stopped as there were elements I loved and others I didn't. Returning to this piece with fresh eyes and a new perspective has allowed me to produce a piece of artwork that I am not only extremely proud of, but has quickly become of my favourite pieces. The original inspiration was, as the name suggests, the idea of Limbo: The idea of being stuck between Worlds; in a place of both chaos and tranquility. Limbo is made up of layer upon layer of acrylic paint, spray paint, pearlescent and black ink, and tissue paper. The layers and variety of both materials and methods of applying them give the image a textural depth that draws the viewer in. The piece combines planned brush strokes with random elements that I could never reproduce exactly. Using alternative methods of applying the materials like spreading paint with card or allowing the inks to drip create a sense of random curiosity that is truly unique to the piece. The final piece is finished off with a mixture of both matt and gloss varnishes, which adds another depth to the image highlighting areas with light and adding further interest to the piece. I particularly like how the circle and splat in the middle of the image look as if they are still wet when the light hits them. Its bold, bright and vibrant colour scheme of purples and blues set amongst the strong contrasting white and blacks makes this a striking piece that would look great on a feature wall or simply mounted on white.

I am an artist working in Teesside, North East England specialising in mixed media artwork inspired by colour, texture and urban art. My work takes strong influence from the World of StreetArt and Graphic Novels as well as a fascination with the abstract and the random. I like to experiment with my artwork trying out new techniques and methods of getting paint to canvas. I often build up backgrounds in mixed media and use what I call 'random art' before applying a specific image on top.
