Art Description

Painting: Oil on Wood.

My son, Gray was the inspiration behind this work. I would chase him throughout the grounds of our property; over trails and up oaks. They are tiny yet sentimental memories. Here he sits upon a stone bench we had carved directly from a giant boulder next to an arroyo (dry creek and sometimes running ) The oak tree is enormous next to him. I like the juxtaposition and seek solace in the location with much gratitude.

The techniques I used consisted first of light washes of oil color and turpentine; in which the wood soaked in some tone, and the colors danced and did their thing. Following that process, I used a dark color and painted the scene like an illustration. After that, it was all "push & pull" until enough was enough. The photo is taken in the evening with Tungsten lighting to give the viewer a sensation of how the colors pop.
