Partly influenced by a research trip to China and Longhua Temple in Shanghai, where the image of the figures (worshipers) dominates the composition, the rest of the canvas is scattered with graphic, abstract and painterly tropes, interspersed with digital references and iconography from the real world and nature - often merging to create strange, hybrid and chimeric forms.
The surface in places has thickly applied paint, or collaged (painted) elements that create a rich and interesting surface ground.
