ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Looking utilizes gold metal leafing to add a depth of light to the shadows in the background of this whimsical still life of a lemon and hydrangea hanging in the wind. I love to play with the idea of pattern and how it can create an intimate space even within a large painting. This painting is so beautiful in person, photos can't capture the way the gold travels with the light during the day. It is inspired by dreamy days hidden in the woods as a child. I like to imagine a place where shadows and nature create a hidden sanctuary away from the city and from a busy life, where time stands still.

Andie Freeman (1971) creates still life and nature paintings connecting realist impressionism with playful and abstracted settings. Freeman’s work can be found in public and private collections, including the collection of the City of Raleigh and the Coastal Discovery Museum of Hilton Head as well as the publication, Richeson 75 Small Works 2016. She is a member of Oil Painters of America and Artspace. Freeman creates her work at her studio in Raleigh, North Carolina and is represented by Camellia Art Gallery in Hilton Head, SC, City Art Gallery in Greenville, NC, and GreenHill, Greensboro, NC. She is currently the Artist in Residence for The Coastal Discovery Museum of Hilton Head and will have a solo exhibition there in 2022. She is a 2019 Fellow of the Clark Hulings Fund Business Accelerator.
