From the artist: "This is a print of a painting that has a story. I was painting the original live at Cave Gallery during an opening in 2011. At the end of the night I packed up my car, but failed to pack up the painting. I drove home leaving it in the street. When I discovered what I had done, I drove back out to the gallery, but the painting was long gone. I thought it was lost forever. Eight months later, I was tagged in a photo on Facebook. It was the painting! It turned out that a woman had found it lying in the street. She brought it home and hung it above her fireplace. Eventually someone came to her house that recognized the work and let her know I was the artist (I had not signed it yet). When I contacted her about it, she said she was glad that she found me because she was moving to Austin and she was unable to take the painting with her. I rescued it from her, finished it, and brought it to Cave Gallery where it was originally slated to show more than a year ago. It had finally completed it's journey. Max Neutra is best known for his ongoing bunny street art project. Conceived as whimsical idea created at a live painting event in Barcelona, he will tell you that the bunnies have since evolved into a study of space and motion, a meditation on achieving balance, and a pursuit of the perfect curve. Having spent years painting publicly at events across several countries, Max developed his own signature technique. Building up layers of acrylic paint as if it were watercotor, he creates images that have depth and motion seemingly contained within carefully honed borders. In his work, he often celebrates the aesthetically pleasing lines of industrial design, explores the evolution of music, and revels in the natural satisfaction of coming face to face with another species. Today, Max continues to foster a spirit of discovery while raising his daughter and creating art in Santa Fe, NM.
