Babies in the oral stage often behave in ways that make them pleased and satisfied putting things or fingers into their mouth. I found it interesting to see that babies fulfill their desire through their mouth. In a sense this happens in the very first stage of development of human beings, that is, it is a pleasure felt by a naïve baby who has no clue about anything at all, I have come to think of it as a pure pleasure. Although all people have the same pleasure as a baby in the oral stage, they, as they grow up, conceal their desire and pure pleasure in believing that they should hide it or be suppressed by something else. However, I, as a grown up, make art out of pure desire, I was convinced that a baby’s pure pleasure is what I truly like to express and the reason I make paintings. The curtain in my work functions as a device that protects and conceals my sexual fantasy from the outside world, and I wanted to express the pure babies feeling content and satisfied while playing with a phallus object using their mouths and hands as affectionate play out of pure pleasure. I employed the lotus, which I used to look at in my childhood while attending the temple with my mother, as a tool that embodies the babies’ pure desire, at the same time, recalling my pure childhood. The babies playing in the lotus is a reflection of myself who pursues pure pleasure and desire and a symbolic form of self-love. In conjunction with these visual expressions, I use a condom as a medium directly depicting modern man’s sexual desire and pleasure, trying to convey naïve and straightforward content simultaneously. On top of that, I use tactile materials, such as cement, latex, and urethane to reveal tactile senses forthright. In the process of mixing in these materials, the outcomes produced by accident are well aligned with the idea of a pure pleasure—empty-minded babies are unconsciously pleased and content with the pleasure through their mouths
