Lovers Lane Painting

My journey to and from the studio or work is a time to reflect on the day ahead or behind me and I am inspired by moments of stillness inside the movement of the day. This quiet corner of the lane offers a secret of peace. Here the long summer shadows almost begin to break into their own shapes and are on the brink of abstraction. I love the subtleness of the analogous colours against the contrasting darks and lights. There are so many greens and there is a slither of blue sky to suggest the vastness above it. The paint is 'painterly' in that it is used to suggest and express texture and the lushness of the summer, yet it is still 'enjoying being paint' and making marks. It has an impressionistic feel to, but on the brink of evolving into an expressionistic abstract.
