This modern still life of a bowlback mandolin was inspired by the artists love for the instrument. Benjamin plays the mandolin and combines his love of woodworking with his love of mandolin, by restoring antique instruments back to playing condition. The mandolin in the painting was inspired by an 1890's mandolin Benjamin restored and still plays.

Benjamin Lindsay, is an painter/ printmaker based in New York City. His affection for New York is clear with his most recent series: “Love Notes to New York” a series of oils on panel and small gouache vignettes. His pieces often pare down complex city scenes to simple shapes and colors, that create a sense of timelessness and playful curiosity. Lindsay’s great-grandparents were painters, and their influence resonates in his work. "My great-grandparents were painters, growing up I always treasured their works, and even though I never met them, their art told me so much about who they were. I knew from an early age I had to speak to generations I would never meet.” Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Benjamin is now based in Brooklyn, New York.
