Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, tape and mirror on Wood.

There is a beautiful dance that occurs in our brains in order to understand what we see. The eyes take in an image and decode patterns, looking for repetition. But what happens when deciphering a non repeating pattern? If a pattern doesn’t repeat, can chaos ever be understood? These questions compelled me to research non-repeating patterns such as the Penrose pattern, and the related 3D quasicrystal. My paintings and macro constructions introduce interference to quasicrystal patterns, generating a formless formalism. With each piece, aperiodicty in its very complexity imparts a profound perspective to the underlying structure of our reality.
