About The Artwork

For me, the best way to bring out the beauty of a paint is to harden it on the surface of the two colors as they pass by for a very short time. I made it feel like a sculpture by using a knife to paint in this painting. The surface of the painting is simply beautiful as a surface, I didn't want more than that. Looking at Matisse's paintings, it is enough to give me the beauty of'color' itself. However, the decoration does not imply any meaning? If so, I think that what we can think of must always be thought out of the sense of depth we know.

“ To me, expressing myself is like the flowering of a flower. ” I was born and based in Seoul .The place where I grew up and live has soft ridged mountains, calm but strong waves, and four distinct seasons. The lonely and solitary characteristics of the small but isolated island of the Korean Peninsula and the harsh weather were not that easy for me. Like this, the environment I have lived in is just me and has become a constant factor in my paintings. In particular, I like to metaphorize the thin boundaries of objects, for example, imagining huge accumulation and history like a thread in the ridge of a mountain and a huge rock reminiscent of a woman's body. I am deeply interested in the characteristics of korean-painting and ink calligraphy, so I used brush and ink ( Ink wash painting is a type of Chinese ink brush painting which uses washes of black ink, such as that used in East Asian calligraphy, in different concentrations. It emerged during the Tang dynasty of China, and overturned earlier) for a long time. I think it probably comes from the soft and elegant Korean energy of nature. By eliminating the distinction between lines and colors, the emotions themselves that can be responded to immediately are realized with oil paints. Oil painting gives me a sense of weight as I paint, which leads me to come up with more metaphors. When looking at my paintings, you have to pay attention to the brush strokes. For me, being immersive is most important when drawing. My actions, determined at that moment, are the way various memories are combined when I sleep. So my paintings are drawing_ paintings, and these characteristics were influenced by Matisse paintings. I liked Matisse the most, and his precise and flowing lines were very Oriental, so I, as an Asian, naturally captured that charm. The lines in my paintings are circulating energy and the relationship between self and others.
