About The Artwork

There are certainly elements of surrealism in this piece, the cormorant has no real reason to be there apart from a reminder of nature, missing when one sits inside and watches television. Televisions featured heavily in earlier work of mine as I see them as symbolic of modern, popular culture. The eyeball watching you is suggestive of the Orewellian situation we increasingly find ourselves in. As in all these psychedelic inspired paintings, I use pattern in the background which represents religion, as if there is an undertone of region represented by these satined glass like patterns. Religion and the media are very similar in their questionable ethics and the lack of trust we have in both.
