About The Artwork

Part of an ongoing explorer of the problem of verbal and nonverbal communication in the big city. I paint the canvas so that people can think about themselves, feel the invisible processes happening to them. My tools: gestures and letters.

Elena is an aspiring artist from Nizhny Novgorod, continuing in her new activity what she has been doing for 14 years as a craft. Her tools are gestures and letters. Fluid letter codes and ciphers are a topic of constant research in the context of the movement of time flows, visualization of verbal and nonverbal communications, recording of sound reality. Elena uses letters, lettering, calligraphy, handwriting as the basis of her creative method. Having perfected the techniques of calligraphy, she expands the meaning of the letter and gives it new multi-layered meanings, turning it into a sign, a self-defining symbol of creativity. The letter in her works goes beyond the usual graphic symbol of phonetic writing – the sign becomes a verbalized concept, integrating into the unique creative ecosystem of the author. Elena experiences any life experience, contact with the outside world or processes of internal reflection, with the help of verbalization of the concept in the sign. Any person, in her view, consists of thoughts expressed and unspoken. Formulated news feed and modern neologisms characterize time. Verbalized thoughts become words, meaningful combinations of letters. Unspoken thoughts remain concepts in the author's head until they are formalized in the form of signs. Her unique creative method - verbalization of the concept and visualization of the sign - is the optics of the artist, through which verbal and nonverbal communications are transferred to the canvas. Elena is not limited only to the 2D method, she is also interested in large-scale three-dimensional statements. Canvases are just the beginning, which represents the verbalized concept of the sign and presents to the viewer a unique vision of a multi-valued symbol in modern art. Olga Yakovleva, curator.
