ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Every decade or so, I like to tackle a new version of the old religious painting called The Annunciation. In my newest version I have incorporated a Melanesian woman. I recently ran across an article discussing the DNA of Melanesian people who are known for their dark skin, blonde hair and striking cerulean blue eyes.

My paintings and collages have a narrative quality - as if revealing a scene from a story in progress. Central to most of "my stories" is a female figure who is often accompanied by recurring animal guides like spotted eagle rays, wolves or birds. Environmental, social or other commentary might also weave their way into my work, although it's voice is often subtle.
