Art Description

Painting: Oil on Wood.

Oil on Wood Panel 30" x 30"

Geometric Van Gogh Portrait by Angie Jones. (Re-appropriation of the self-portrait by Van Gogh, 1889)

Van Gogh is an influential artist for me. It is a daunting task to create an abstracted ideal of a subject from a photograph. It is a bigger task to create a remixed abstracted image from a self-portrait painting by another artist. Appropriating Van Gogh provided an opportunity to explore his palette and iconic persona through simplification. Up close, the viewer focuses on the fractured surface and colors; from a distance, the dimensionality and presence of the figure become obvious. The vision in detail simulates a pixelated state. A second awareness occurs when the viewer moves away from the painting. Both the formal elements and content inform the viewer.

I cannot ship this painting rolled as it is painted on a wood panel.
