Painting: Oil on Stainless Steel.
The North Shore of Lake Superior is a corridor for water fowl migration. Both Spring and Fall see flock after flock fly by our home. I found myself wishing for the kind of freedom our birds have could extend to our immigrants on the southern border. The plight of our South American friends became the inspiration for this painting. The serenity of Lake Blue became the background for this migration. The stainless steel becomes a permanent, impenetrable substrate for the paint, keeping the integrity of color and texture. The use of pearlescent oils plays the light back to the viewer, changing with natural and ambient room lighting.
