Painting: Plaster, Acrylic, Charcoal & Pastels on Canvas

Original artwork, 2021

50 x 70 x 2 cm

This minimal painting is one of a kind. It is handcrafted with pastels, charcoal and plaster to achieve a monochromatic earthy texture.

Its simple harmony makes it calming and soothing at first sight, but you could spend hours admiring its natural randomness, noticing new textures, shapes, depths and variations of color.

This piece is part of my Roche Series, which is inspired by Italian frescos, rock erosion, natural earthy tones and the way historical buildings wear out in time.

Born in Belgium 1986 /// Artist, Makeup Artist & Studio Hairstylist /// Studios in Belgium & Paris /// Trained as a makeup artist, Allison Depriestre is a self-taught painter who recently started to express her fresh and creative personality through her art. She paints using the unique skills she spent years mastering as a makeup artist, channelling her emotions into colourful paintings while inspiring others to enjoy art in a childlike way. Living between Paris, Brussels and Los Angeles for the past 10 years, and travelling extensively for her job as a hair & makeup artist, Allison mostly gets her inspiration from her travels, from city life to breathtaking nature sceneries. Heavily influenced by the ’70s-’80s aesthetic, she dreams in Kodachrome but paints in acrylic & makeup, using mixed media to best express her peaceful but meaningful views of the world. Her palette is colorful yet fresh, daring yet quiet. Always exploring, her profession as a make-up artist and her profession as an artist remain inextricably entwined. As a traveller and lover of History and Architecture, Allison has always been attracted to the beauty of imperfect, cracked walls with fading colors, especially in ancient architecture, from Italian frescos to French bricks and ceramic walls in Porto. On some of her most sought after work, the “Roche Series”, she used a mix of plaster, sand, charcoal, makeup and pastels to handcraft a unique earthy texture. Fascinated by the way time passes and changes buildings in the long run, she drew on her travel photo collections to create this series. Eroded rocks from places like Bryce Canyon, Zion Park, Antelope Island, Andalusia, Morocco, old buildings’ walls from Portugal, France, Italy and Greece are the main inspirations of the Roche Series.
