This is the first of other paintings I have entitled 'Mixed Emotions'. All my work begins with an emotion, feeling or memory, but to be true to myself, I often depict hugely significant and personal emotions. We rarely find ourselves in situations that are 100% one thing or another; in fact, most of our experiences can be considered a mix of emotions -or is that just me?! This painting began with an dark, intense palette of colours: dark purple, blacks, red to signify times of deep worry an stress However, so often in life it's the laughter that gets you through and hence the top layers are the golds which are representing life's lighter moments.
