About The Artwork

My inspiration is the monochromes of the French painter Yves Klein (1928-62). He is best known for his monochrome ultramarines but also made red monochromes. This is a painting using reddish color pigment - a cadmium red purple - mixed with the same medium (binder) as Yves Klein used (a kind of vinyl ester). The resulting paint shows more pigments than any other medium can do, more pigments reflects the light because they are "free" in the surface, not drowned in the binder. Then a spot of ultramarine is added as a contrast or maybe not as complete contrast. The spot is not placed in the middle of the square, it is moved a little away but not so much that it is immediately obvious.

Between childhood and my children's childhood I nearly never was creative in this way. But then, when my children began to play with clay and plaster, I returned to the creative arts. First, I worked with and attended classes in clay figure modelling. Then I also worked with more or less abstract sculpture making in paper clay, wood, plaster, resins - and got occupied with mould making in silicones and castings in plaster and resins. Also, a few works of paintings. Born 1951. Living in central Copenhagen, Denmark.
