Monument/Elegy #3 Painting

This painting is the third in a series of works named Monument/Elegy. In these paintings, I want to find a universal expression/symbol that represents certain groups or individuals of our time that feels we are free (from essentialism and metaphysics) but empty and lost as well. We look up and then, as we expected, find nothing above. Now is an era gods and grand narratives have been deconstructed. I want to create several monumental paintings, not to commemorate the lost heroes or the painful history. But to commemorate an era that seems to be void, to commemorate the present emptiness, and the moment we feel it. It is at such a moment that we begin to think about things like society, world, and the faith, at this moment we avoid the numbness that has been mass-producing now. Each painting in the series has a certain degree of concealment of the corresponding theme. The subject (besides the expression) that is concealed in this painting is the Time/Eternity (the concept of Eternity has been scratched and described as ‘a lump of Ivory black’ in the painting, whilst ivory black is painted as the mouth of the expression.)
