About The Artwork
This work is from the collection Diary of Wishful Tendencies. The diary reflects my moods in the days, weeks and months following a personal loss which landed me in absolute emptiness – the outside world not touching me anymore, hiding in a cocoon, waiting for a process of healing. The process of healing became the process of creation – in which I myself became the subject. Living and working in Abruzzo, Italy is also an inspiration for my work – the colours of the soil, sea and sky. The hilltop villages which suddenly appear as you round a bend in the road. An unhurried coffee on a terrace while contemplating snow-topped mountains.

Dutch artist, I studied art in Belgium. After living and working in the Netherlands and the United States, my home is now in beautiful Abruzzo (Italy). I have exhibited extensively in these countries. My work has been bought by collectors throughout North America, Europe and Asia. It has been featured by the Jealous Curator and other art influencers - and inspired a good Instagram following. Until 6 years ago, my works were figurative explorations of human behaviour - reflecting our strengths and vulnerabilities as we go about our daily lives. Now my work is abstract expressionist - in particular, a style I call "evocative abstract". I draw on themes of silence and the "poetry of just being". I want my paintings to evoke feelings, memories and images - stimulating their recall to the conscious mind of the viewer.
