Art Description

Painting: Digital, Acrylic, Oil, Spray Paint, Ink on Canvas, Other.

Acrylic, acrylic based medium, archival varnish UV protection, oil, and pigmented Ultrachrome inkjet prints (collage) on canvas. The piece comes ready to hang.

The basis of the painting is a museum shop merchandising which has been painted over. Taking a direct approach by expropriating a gift shop DVD, advertising »I shot Andy Warhol«, I tackle the subject of media's pursuit of commodity and turn it inside out. This over-painting is then digitized, reworked on the computer to be printed out and mounted on canvas. Thus the canvas becomes a palette of inkjet-prints as the painting upon it takes shape. Unlike on the computer, where the functional logic is based on described rules, the material itself becomes the topic as a sequence of actions.
