My Head Floats Like Bees Sing Painting

Nimzo-Indian work across a wide range of creative disciplines producing work that is both playful, coy and deliberately uses avoidance as strategy to evade easy definition against established predominant art categories. Both ‘making’ and placing the work within different contexts are deliberate strategies designed to disrupt and rupture current image and aesthetic dogmas. In this way the work has the potential to disrupt and neutralizes established discipline hierarchies, harking back to ‘dada’ and surrealist sensibilities and the potential for micro utopian and revolutionary art making. Nimzo-Indian's work include painting, music and object making. They work under a range of other adopted personas including the art duo the Habsburg's, art noise band OHMMM, experimental music group the Nimzo-Indian In May 2011 Nimzo-Indian formed the art noise band OHMMM as an intensive period of ‘making’ and improvised musical ensemble performance. OHMMM members were allocated an instrument case of restrictive fixed size, and then individually designed and made sound objects to be performed within the case in accordance with a constitution/ manifesto of rules. OHMMM have performed at the London Short Film Festival, the Public, Axis arts centre and Birmingham Arts Centre. Artist Nimzo-Indian have exhibited at the Midland Arts Centre, BMAG, Aspex gallery, Krakow Ethnographic Museum. Their musical works have been played on BBC 6 Music and La Radio Inde-Pendante France. He has performed live extensively around the UK including performances at the ICA and Dingwalls supporting the High Llamas. Their work has been featured in Creative Review, MOJO and on the cultural blogs Booooooom and Lost at e Minor.
