This could be a scene from a Victorian murder mystery. A sheet has been thrown over the corpse to conceal the horror of the crime scene. I expect Auguste Dupin or Sherlock Holmes to arrive any moment to examine the body. The image probably reflects my early affection for the classic Universal horror pictures of the 1930s when the camera panned or the image faded to black just before Karloff's or Lugosi's villain attacked their victim.
