This landscape is that of Namaqualand in the Northern Cape in South Africa. It is usually quite arid and difficult to photograph or paint under normal circumstances (unless the Namaqualand daisies are in flower). The painting is however during dusk, when the sun is low and illuminates the landscape a an array of vivid colours.

I am a 27 year old South African artist, born and raised in Johannesburg, who primarily started out with oil painting, but loves to experiment with other mediums. Charcoal, pencil, watercolour, clay modelling, wood carving and pastels are some of the mediums that I’ve delft into. My subject matter varies significantly, I do not have an affinity to one single subject matter as I find so many things interesting and attractive. Growing up I’ve always loved art and making things with my hands, in 2015 I started taking art classes from Cameron Annear and entered a steep learning curve. I continue to create artwork inspired by the beauty around me, by my travels, by nature, classical art, and architecture. Lately I enjoy painting expressive landscapes, especially where there is a play of light and colours involved. Since I enjoy hiking and the outdoors, I take a lot of the pictures myself and then master them back in the studio. Sometimes I enjoy painting outside as this requires quick thinking and expressive brush strokes.
