About The Artwork

Vice is nice, or is nice vice? duh, I fear, a female dear, my head is spun round fully twice Oh, a long long way to near, or close, to be verbose To work is inspiration that alone is aspiration to end up in a conspiration to carry out a collaboration and become well known throughout the nation. or just my mental masturbation. Trying for some balanced perturbation. Word soup, the subject matter fairly literally in this case Words carry power after all, although here it seems they are emptied out, by becoming unreadable. It is also important to note, that no words have actually been written on this page, but rather they have arisen as the negative space defining them has been removed, How can all that energy become trapped in such an 'insignificant' object as a piece of painted art card? It's just a matter of hours. Those that know my work know that it's based on hours. Many hours of meditative repetition of some basic unit of making. In the case of this series, the making is unmaking. Or, as I have been calling this technique, unpainting. It is based on the permanent solubility of watercolour paint. Depending on the pigment, and the ground, the paint can be removed by applying water and cleaning the resulting wet paint back off the ground with a brush, continuously cleaning the brush and dragging the paint off into tissue. I have described the technique in other works. It has become my favourite technique, whether for abstract or for realism. The words have been coming into the work more and more over the last few years, to the point that most work seems a bit empty without any words. The monochrome series, of which this is the latest one, has become almost entirely focused on word based works. This is the first to be uploaded and offered for sale here on Saatchi, in fact I have put zero up since my failed daily pebble portrait project. Long time no Saatcheee Failing is so necessary, but is becoming harder every time. I have of course, still been working, to the edge of sanity in most cases. I have actually failed a few more times though, and haven't been mentally able to catch up my portfolio here. My plan is to put something up each day for a while, until I am caught up. We'll see, I often have grandiose plans but life is cruel and vice is nice. Or is nice vice? So anyway, A4 coloured Art card prepared with Golden GAC100 medium and Raw Sienna over Phtalo turquoise paint, then painted and unpainted with Winsor and Newton Artist Water Colours, Cobalt Turquoise Light. Sheet will be sent flat in a very strong box made of recycled carton board. Hand made with love by the artist himself, at least until can afford an assistant, but then I would have to train him/her and all that. This work is sensitive to abrasion and to water, and of course any other possibly contaminating substance, including careless handling, and will need to be framed behind glass for display. These particular pigments are very lightfast, but all artwork should be protected against excessive light exposure.

Abstract Pointlessism from a pointless abstractor "I sometimes feel I have something to say, I never want to communicate this." taking doodling seriously, since the get go. Born under a bad sign, next to a world record slag heap, not far from where Paul Hogan would launch his famous larger than life aussie character onto the world stage in the first Crocodile Dundee movie, this escaped aussie, this nomad who never travels but who has never lived in the same town for any length of time, this layer of legends this miser this nob-end this shine on you crazy nightmare. The man known as @spaingaroo and legend in his own lunchbox thinks he's so important that he gave up his life to hide away and paint until it means something. It still seems to mean nothing, and the dogs seem pretty disappointed that we don't jet around the globe, taking in French poodles on the Champs Elisses, or at least riding through Paris in a sports car, with the warm wind in our hair. At the age of twenty seven, he realised he needed to go to art college, with the warm self assurance of your normal child prodigy. Trouble was those years between said child prodigy and then. lost, lost, doing stupid things going to med school before flunking out in a championship way, to spend his time on wine women and song, before suddenly waking up as an artist again. The system took him in again a decade later, against their better judgement, and ended up spitting him out with a BA in Visual Arts and a raging workaholism. Ripe for rapid burnout after shooting for the stars, he instead got sidetracked by the wiff of a señorita and ended up deciding to take a leap off the edge of the known world and washed up in Spain. Still here. Paints or draws or masturbates obsessively, every single day. Often puts a month or more of those days into a single small artwork. Considers himself completely insane, but somehow still basically high functioning. Against all odds and inner turmoil he continues to surprise us at each turn, or at least the us that he imagines giving a shit. And not really surprise so much as pity. He says his work is about the inside of his head, which there are no words for. Even if sometimes the artwork is made of words, it's not, let me assure you. Those words are not there, and they express nothing. And that's not as mad as it seems, as nothing is as it seems with this guy.
