ABOUT THE ARTWORK

From my small kitchen in West Sussex, I subconsciously paint, what I feel are baron, isolated landscapes. As part of the Niotheis collection, 'We feel', the works evoke a ghostly sense of calm and peace. The hopeful undertones of ochre and umber play as much a part of this painting as the deep black and the illuminous whites. Reflecting to my own responses to Rothko and even Turner, I would like to think that this body of work stirs an emotion in the viewer and invites them to stare, gaze and feel.

Christina K Anastasis is a minimalist abstract painter who has re-entered the world of art after a two-decade hiatus. This return to painting has been marked by a profound exploration of form, colour, and texture, resulting in a unique body of work that reflects both personal growth and artistic evolution. Utilising acrylics as her primary medium, Anastasis employs a monochrome colour palette that is enriched with undertones of umbers and ochres. This choice of colours not only enhances the visual depth of her paintings but also evokes a sense of tranquility and introspection. The use of acrylics allows for a versatile application, enabling the artist to create layers that contribute to the overall complexity of her work. Anastasis's artistic focus includes landscapes and seascapes, which serve as a foundation for her minimalist approach. By distilling these natural elements into their essential forms, she invites viewers to engage with the artwork on a deeper level. The simplicity of her compositions encourages contemplation, allowing the audience to derive personal meaning from the visual experience. Living in a small village in West Sussex, Anastasis draws inspiration from her surroundings. The serene environment and the changing landscapes of the region play a significant role in shaping her artistic vision. This connection to nature is evident in her work, as she captures the essence of the world around her through a minimalist lens. In summary, Christina K Anastasis is an artist who embodies the principles of minimalism in her abstract paintings. Her journey back to art after 20 years has resulted in a distinctive style characterized by a monochrome palette and a focus on landscapes and seascapes. Through her work, she continues to explore the interplay of colour and form, inviting viewers to experience the beauty of simplicity.
