Nirvana Japan 2014 11 10 Painting

My name is Masaho Miyashima, I graduated from Osaka University of Arts. I am a painter of abstract paintings. I've learned from teachers who were active in NY in the 1960s. Such as Waich Tsudaka, Shigeru Izumi, etc. I was strongly influenced by the abstract painters from NY. Especially Barnet Newman, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Frank Stella. Furthermore, I was also strongly influenced by the Japanese painter. Tohaku Hasegawa from the 16th century. While I was a teacher I continued with my solo exhibitions in Tokyo. I continued to painting believe in I am a successor of Newman and Stella and all of the American abstract artists. Fortunately, In 2009, I discovered a new concept and method for my abstract paintings. It was the birth of a new way of abstract painting that fused together NY abstract 20th century and Japanese Zen. I was participating in a local large exhibition, now. This exhibition was called Aichi Triennale 2015 in Toyokawa. The exhibition has collected artists from all over the world.These are my works. My work’s name was PHANTOM from 1990. I tried my work changing to painting from installation.　 My favorite painter is Hasegawa Tohaku. He is a Japanese religious artist in16th century. When I stand in front of his works, I always fill the sense which I am entering into myself in the works.　And I had tried to making PHANTOM and exhibited in Tokyo until 2008. And I met the word of Nirvana in 2009. That was the title of Tohaku's work. I felt surprise in its meaning. Nirvana mean is “Blow out”.　Because, I have kept drawing a picture by the way Nirvana mean. I have made PHANTOM in the following, spraying colors on moist canvas and wipe partially by moist clothes from 1990. I find out nirvana mean way is an expression itself. And I decide that Nirvana is my concept, method and theme in 2009. This time, I partially covered my painting by silver leaves instead of wipe by moist closes. As time has passed, a part of silver leaves are changing into iridescence near black and a part of an aluminum leaves are probably changing into white gradually by oxidation.
