ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The scene that collects part of the atmosphere of the city as we experience it when we are submerged in the daily traffic: crossing a street in the middle of towers of buildings, traffic lights quickly captured from the seat of a Transantiago (Chile) bus, the kaleidoscopic vision of reflections in the showcases or on the windows of a facade, public lighting, and traffic lights: all this challenges us as active spectators because in his works we recognize our own way of seeing, used to reading reality from the photographic medium and all the variants that we know in contemporary times, from film and video to digital images, the internet, and social networks. Paloma Gómez's work resonates with the reflections of artists who have brought into play the tension between painting, drawing, and photography, such as Gerhard Richter or David Hockney, and also with those who were concerned with thematizing speed, movement, and the night landscape, where the absence of natural light gives an unusual prominence to the technology of the bulbs.
