Notes From Our Adventure Painting

A small and powerful painting created with blue and neutral tones with subtle pops of yellow and orange. The postcard is layered with a page from a storybook map, evoking a sense of travel and adventure. This small painting asks you to get up close and study the details, the lines, and the handwriting, all stories to be told. As with most of us, my home and work life shifted dramatically while under quarantine. Every morning I went into the studio for an hour of personal work time. I created a morning routine that involved movement, music, journaling, and painting. Slowly, day after day, this collection came to fruition. Centered on a collage cloud made with a single vintage postcard, this collection explores concepts of communication over distance, handwriting as human touch, physical and implied textures, small moments of clarity within chaos, and a balance of construction and destruction.
