Most of my work revolves around the felt architecture of our interior state- the exploration of our conscious and subconscious, and visual representation of my internal condition. The piece is informed by an overall grid-like structure, but is full of loose brush work and spontaneity. It is contained within its border on the paper, lending to an overall feeling of structure as well. *This piece is approximately 12" x 12" x 0.25" on baltic birch plywood, and would be easy to frame in a tray frame, or set up on a shelf or bookshelf unframed.

Jason Zahn (b. 1979) is an American contemporary abstract painter living and working outside of Baltimore, Maryland. His paintings revolve around the intersection of defined, planned forms, and spontaneity. Colors, shapes, textures and marks are layered over one another and often excavated back through, revealing a deep history of the process involved in the work. Often relying on a formal or informal underlying grid structure, a recognizable architecture runs through much of the work. As in the organic process of living a rich, complex, unpredictable life, the pieces are metaphorical in the way that they are built up and torn down simultaneously over time- the end result often far different from the initial concept or plan.
