Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Spray Paint on Canvas.

was born in 1975, a blissfully ignorant child that knew nothing of the political angst strangling our country. I was raised by incredibly strong women, my mother and those she brought into my life. She treated everyone with the same respect and taught me to do the same and so I was even more unaware of the aspect of apartheid. My earliest memories are of spending weekends on my grandfather's farm playing with the children from the nearby village. We didn't even speak the same language, yet we played for hours knowing nothing about the government. I had no idea that I was privileged until I asked why my friend could not come to my school. A few years later the farm was lost to the Ciskei government and I never saw her again. I so often wonder where she is today, I like to imagine she’s changing the world.
