Painting: Oil on Canvas.
"Obelisk" is a piece that is inspired by the science fiction books and movies. Every year, Hollywood releases a slew of blockbusters intended to thrill audiences with an updated take on the end of the world. Whether impending doom is delivered by way of robotic extra-terrestrials, sharks falling from the sky, or even a cataclysmic sinkhole just outside a James Franco party, moviegoers never seem to tire of the specter of imminent apocalypse.
Conceived and completed by the summer of 2013 at the Island Studio, Jerusalem.
This painting is on a gallery wrapped canvas with finished black edges. It comes ready to hang. Signed on the front and back.
About a process:
This piece has started with no preconceived notion of where the process will go. There is something magical about the painting being spontaneous, as only have a certain amount of control over what is out - the rest is serendipity. This is a multilayered work. Alexey builds up layers using a variety of techniques with large windows in each, so that the final images are a kind of collage of textures.
About a series:
"History Of Silence"
It's an escape, a sanctuary from the noisy, industrial rusting slum. Everything eventually returns to nature - like a pastoral coral reef growing on a battleship lichen and mosses engulf factory buildings. The series of pieces that sit comfortably in your home. No nudes, blood or pieces that engage through discomfort. However, pieces are as thought-provoking as they are beautiful.
