Fractured lights spills through the ocean water to reveal a weedy sea dragon in its natural habitat. The way the light is portrayed in this piece is dynamic yet soft. The light splays out as it hits the ocean surface and covers the marine environment in crisp light. Weedy sea dragons are unique to the Australian coastline. Swimming through the sea they drift along with the ebb and flow of the tide. Captured here in a field of seagrass where they expertly camouflage and rendered in stunning detail to enhance this creatures’ exquisite beauty. Tiny brushes have been used to add intricate markings seen on this amazing sea creature, right down to the translucent fins. Subtle shades of purple and yellow have been used to create a vibrant effect in this piece. The colours bounce around and add sparkle to the scene. Splashes and dots of colour add life and reflect the nature of the ocean carrying bubbles and tiny particulates around. As a lover of the ocean and a scuba diver I use my photos as references to create stunning pieces like this one. Each fish and plant is painted to exacting standards and all are found in the cool waters of southern Australia. I take great pride in ensuring my artworks are an accurate representation of the marine environment depicted, making pieces like this one scientifically accurate as well as beautiful. This piece is painted using artist quality acrylic paint and comes with a wire ready to hang.

I have always painted marine life as a passion and a year ago I decided to focus my life around being an artist. Since then I have sold many pieces to collectors around Australia and overseas. I regularly exhibit my artworks as I love sharing both the art and the fascinating marine creatures I capture in the work. As a keen snorkeler many of my pieces are inspired by photos I’ve taken from underwater experiences. My love of the ocean and the undersea world is evident in all my works. Enthralled by unique marine environments, I use acrylic paints to capture water like translucency and to also build up bold, opaque layers. I love the contrast these two techniques and styles can create. My pieces range from larger scale pieces capturing scenes of reef life, quite loose in style and full of light and life, to smaller detailed pieces focusing on a realism approach. It is always wonderful to see an artwork in your own space so I will often photoshop an image of an artwork into a prospective client’s space. Please feel free to contact me if you are considering a piece and would like to see it in your own décor. I endeavour to make pieces that fill peoples’ homes with a sense of calm and beauty. The colours I use are reflective of the ocean and the life it holds. My pieces remind people of the ocean, holidays, summer, swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, boating, fishing and all the happiness these memories and activities bring. I seek to capture the beauty and tranquillity that lies beneath the water’s surface and to keep our oceans and coral reefs in the top of people’s minds.
