At the young age of 14, Casado achieved one of his greatest professional successes when he became an accredited copyist at the Museo Nacional del Prado (Madrid). He was fortunate enough to copy the garlands that Jan Brueghel added, on multiple occasions, to the paintings of his intimate friend Peter Paul Rubens. Perplexed before the complexity and aesthetic sensibility of these garlands, Ataulfo reciprocated his admiration for this master exploring the painting through the flower. Theming that also corresponds to his love of nature. "Today we are, tomorrow we are not". Is the quote that inspires the series entitled "Of good and evil" by Casado, composed of a collection of energetic and indefinable flowers, full of splendor, and rich in color and textures. As human beings, we share with the flowers the same tragic condition: we are born, we flourish and we wither. But the reverse of the range of our possibilities of being, thirsty to find answers in every shadow and corner, the purpose of flowers reminds us of the simple and most essential truth of all: each flower is unrepeatable, each one occurs only once and, even so, in its finitude, it is capable of feeding with its pollen a bit of life, without ceasing to be, simply, beautiful. "Of good and evil" is an apology for the transitory condition of being. A reminder that beauty stands out for its tragic condition. Ataúlfo Casado, whose artistic name is a simple and affectionate Ata, was born in Madrid on January 14, 1948. At the young age of 14 he achieved one of his greatest professional achievements, becoming an accredited copyist of the Museo Nacional del Prado (Madrid). At age of 17 he entered the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid, the last year of the Academy as a school of education. The following year, in June, he had to take the entrance exam to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid; 200 students attended the exam, of which only 19 were approved, including Casado. As a result of a disease that left him in absolute blindness, he abandoned painting for years, returning with strength in 2007. His work evolved over time in a formidable way, approaching more and more the abstract style that, to date, he dominates his creations. His style, in the words of Casado himself, can be defined as a mixture of Fauvism, expressionism, figuration and abstraction.
