About The Artwork

Olivia is the mother to five kittens, two of which we still have. She doesn't take any c**p from anyone and if she spots a fight, she will go and sort it out. This painting - oils and gold leaf on canvas panel - painted in the Netherlandish style that was typical of 15th century painting, shows the matriarchal 'Momma cat' 'Olivia' in a white fur and ermine trimmed green and gold brocade top, wearing traditional dutch headdress. In the top-left corner are he fetails in gold leaf - 'Olivia - Ætatis Suæ II - Anno Domini 2015' (Olivia - aged 2 - the year 2015) - and in the top-right corner is her adoptive coat of arms. Note that the coat of arms is abstract and that the pinned up ribbon that frames it is a commonly used device that allows the insertion of abstract objects into paintings of this era, without looking too out of place.

I was born in Derby (England) in the 1960's and in my 20's I worked professionally for a number of years as the City of Derby's Pavement Artist and was even on the Thames Television (UK) show 'What's My Line' as a pavement artist and beat the panel. Recently, I designed a number of indic fonts that have been used in films, books, papers, posters, magazines and so on and of the top five Punjabi fonts used on the Internet, I have the top three places with 'GHP Full', 'Gurvetica' and 'Raaj'. I now work in oils on canvas and wooden panel, including projects that use only the materials that were available at the beginning of the 15th century (you can see original 15th century works in the National Gallery so we know that this technology represents an investment that will outlive many generations to come). My styles cover Anthropomorphic and non-Representational Abstract, through surrealism to that of the works of the 15th and 16th Century Dutch and Elizabethan artists.
