Art Description

Painting: Acrylic, Oil, Pastel on Canvas.

Painting: Acrylic, Oil, Pastel on Canvas.

This painting was created in France during my art residency at Chateau Orquevaux in October 2018. The inspiration was a garden behind a church in Troyes. I stopped in Troyes on the way to Orquevaux. The garden was filled with a glow from the white blooms against layers of green. It was a hidden treasure that stayed with me and I just had to capture it in paint. This is a sister painting to "On Ivory Petals No. 2".

The "Chrysalis" Series is an abstraction of nature. Beginning with an automatic drawing in graphite, translucent layers are applied, followed by more mark making & more layers. Various mediums are utilized to build the surface. The resulting smaller paintings are windows looking outward, while the larger paintings are abstract nature-scapes you can walk right into.
In our minds we know what a hike looks like, or a garden, a meadow, or a waterfall. But what do they feel like? That’s what I try to convey in my painting.

This is an original, one-of-a-kind painting on 1.5" thick gallery wrapped canvas done in acrylic, inks, graphite, oil pastel, and oil glazes. The painting is varnished with a satin varnish to protect from dirt and light. The edges of the canvas are light grey, and the painting is wired and ready to hang.

This painting is framed in a brushed silver floater frame. The frame is a box frame where the painting “floats” inside the frame, and is called a “floater frame”. The frame complements this painting beautifully. Please note the framed size is 32”hx50”w.
