These series of paintings belong to the ongoing project that Laura has developed throughout 2020, during the lockdown months. It represents the change of the seasons in the sowings that surround where the artist lives. Laura has chosen an encounter between two that complement each other: an oat and a corn sowing planted with a sustainable agricultural method, where the drought of a river in the hot summer months, provides the opportunity, without spending water or energy, to carry out planting, with what will feed the animals during the winter months. During the Summer months, the floodgate of this river is closed and, the landscape changes. These lands are sow with corn and sorghum. In the space of a month, we can find the colours of spring again. At the end of the summer, the cycle repeats itself: the corn and the grass stubble return to yellow, and later the river flows again; the blues and greens of winter and spring return. In her painting, Laura explores and showcase the beauty of the relation between the colours of the evolving environment and landscapes where the artist lives or the natural places where she has been. It is the result of a working process and technique, developed to attain the colours and the movements of the skies and grounds, throughout the behaviour of the medium (enamel) and the surface of the support, giving an opportunity to the chance, the hazard and the accidents to work in favour of the final piece: An Abstract Landscape Painting. Revealing something singular and unique, where in each painting, each observer can imagine a different Landscape of its own. These paintings can be seen as abstract because the artist maintains the focus on the characteristics of the medium and the surfaces of the support. Being inclined for the colour field and action painting movements. This painting ships in a tube and it will need to be stretch (in a wooden grid) or framed.

I am a painter living and working in Alentejo, Portugal; and, I studied at the Arts School of Évora University. My practice as a painter is based very simply on my love for the Landscape colours and for the way the medium (enamel) and its characteristics help me in an instinctive act of painting in representing this Landscapes that evolve where I live or the natural places where I’ve been. In the paintings, I am searching to accomplish the colours and the movements of the skies and grounds, searching for the essence of the Landscape itself, letting the chance, the hazard and the accidents of the relation between the medium and the surface of the support to work in favour of the resultant object: an “Abstract Landscape” Painting. Which, I hope, it exhibits something singular and unique, where in each painting, each observer can imagine a different Landscape of its own. My paintings can be seen abstract because I maintain the focus on the characteristics of the medium and the surfaces of the support. Being inclined for the colour field and action painting movements. Therefore, I see it has “Abstract Landscapes”, exhibiting something singular and unique in each painting. These Landscapes are timeless and mindful. The motivation behind the painting is the admiration for the natural world. I’m fascinated with how the colours relate in nature and transform the Landscapes, therefore I work with these colours, its’ abstraction and movements. My paintings recall memories of Landscapes, both for the interpretation of the reality that surrounds me and for the nostalgia with which I recall the natural places where I’ve been. In this way, I intend to convey the importance of living with the environment in which I find myself. Having the horizon line as the beginning of the whole artistic process; the colours of the sky, the relief, the texture of the landscape and the way these elements relate and change throughout the day are all aspects lived and recognizable in my paintings.
