About The Artwork

This series was born after the Lego invasion in her home. To be exposed everyday to those primary colors everywhere in the house, and the possibility to create an infinite world the Lego gives, strange forms come to life on her canvas, exploring the labyrinth effect. Each forms are created in the idea of a unique world, showing different architecture details (plan, stairs…) and are connected with the representation of human mind. All those boxes connect to each other in a irregular pattern, much like a human brain or the different streets in a city. More pictures available of this piece.

Annie Labbé born in Québec (1979) graduated from Laval University in Visual Art and Media Baccalaureate in 2003. Currently lives and works at Lévis (QC), Canada. She was introduced to photography at the age of 14, and chose to continue her studies in fine arts at Cégep de Sainte-Foy. In 2003, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in New Media from Laval University. The artist experimented in all mediums from drawing all the way to installation, and along the way discovered that painting was her true passion. It took travelling around the world to realize that the mighty St. Laurence River close to her home was a major source of inspiration for the artist. The river started to fascinate the artist at a crucial time in her career. The first works from her Landscapes Series were soon created, depicting this source of inspiration. This series allowed her first opportunity to be represented by an art gallery in 2007. During the next 10 years, her works sold around the world through this gallery. During this time period, her creativity grew and took different directions. Two series were born. Both inspired by her family and the struggles of living the life of an artist.
